Ok, my two 18's are installed.. Wiring is next.. While I'm taking a coffee break I have a few questions.. I'm gonig to call M/friend on the Nady deal.. In the meantime, and if the wife won't let me buy another toy , can I use my Kenwood KR-V8070 receiver to power the two subs ? It's an older pro logic era model.. Power output in stereo: 1 kHz. 10% THD at 8 ohms = 147 watts per channel.. And from 63 Hz to 12,500 Hz, 0.7% THD at 8 ohms = 120 watts.. So, I would just run a stereo signal over to the aux in on the Kenwood, and run the two subs as a single speaker left and single speaker right, correct ? Though the manual doesn't give me the breakdown on the specs, the Kenwood will run 4 ohms, which is how I planned to wire the 18's.. Coffee's finished, and I've got a date with some 12 ga.. Hopefully some of you will have some thoughts on this by the time I get back to this side of the room.. Thanks again..

Yep one speaker to each channel. Go easy with the power so you don't drive the amp into heavy clipping.

Thanks Thomas.. This raises a new issue.. If I'm running 1 sub left 1 sub right, they are getting a full range signal, correct ? This won't harm a speaker designed for low freq work ? I was about to hook up the Kenwood when the full range question popped into my head.. There's not much else up there, so it was a pretty loud pop Should I mess with the tone controls ? Roll off the treble, push the bass ? Is this were the DSP 1124P comes into play ? Picked one up back when the price dropped to $99.. Did not plan to put it into action until I purchased a stand alone sub amp, so I have not as yet really studied it's operation and hook up.. thks again..

nolook do you have an old sub that you could use the crossover? Otherwise you could probably use the bfd and use wide bandwidth and heavy cuts on freq above say 100 hz. Someone here probably knows a better way to use the bfd for this, or if it can even be done

I just read your post again, what are you running to the aux input of your kenwood?

If you're using the Pro-logic receiver as a sub amp, you need to send it a sub-out signal from your other receiver.

Hey Brady.. I was originally going to run a full left right aux out from my Denon to the aux in on the Kenwood.. But, I just was just taking a pizza and beer break when the old light went off ! All I need to do run the LEF out of the Denon, then split it with a Y cord, and plug that into an AUX in on the Kenwood.. DOH ! The signal will already be cut at 80 hz via the Denon, and I should be good to go.. You guys were probably way ahead of me on this, and I can only say geeeeez, what a knucklehead I've been I should have this running in the few.. Will be back in a flash with the results.. (Now, if I only knew how to post the pics I've taken of the build ??)

Yeahhhhhhhh, well, back in a flash isn't all it's cracked up to be.. Be that as it may, I'm back.. And What a diff in the sound ;D It took me the better part of the night to get this thing working.. Seems it was 'working' all along, but somehow ("You kids stop messin with my stereo gear !!") the bass management needed to be adjusted ?? Ok, break out the R/Shack SPL meter, reset the whole system, and WOW !!!!! Even with the lowly Kenwood pulling sub amp duty it's truely and incredable sound.. Buttery smooth.. No edginess or coloring of the sound.. Of course I went to a couple of big sound flicks for fun.. The shootout scene at the end of "Open Range".. Too Real ! Then "We Were Soldiers".. Again, you are so pulled into the movie with the sound that you can almost taste the cordite when the 105's are called in for support ! Next I threw some cd's on.. My wife was in the room by now, what with all the earlier commotion, and she's no slouch when it comes to appreciating good tunes.. Let me just say, she has a BIG smile on her face before she had even gotten across the room to sit down.. Brother let me tell ya, it's not that often that ones wife will admit you are right.. So when she does, you know you just got THE seal of approval on all your hard work.. Oh, most all of Eric Claptons later work is great for bass sounds.. His engineers really know what they are doing when it comes to mixing down.. Nothing is lost.. If you want to give your subs a work out, with clean clear full bass, slide a little Clapton into the works.. Thomas, thanks again for this site.. I found it a couple years ago, lerked and yearned for a while, grabbed gear as it went on sale, and with all the advise given by you and the others here I have finally stepped into a new and wonderful world of sound.. My hats off to ya's all Pics to follow, as soon as my son comes over to show me how.. haaa.. Next up, finish building the sound baffles for behind the mains and the center.. (My room is too bright) The fun never ends !
