I bought a Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV that has a 12 volt trigger. I want to use the trigger for the Amp on my new IB. Can someone explain how this works and if I need any additional hardware?
Also, I assume that I need an amp that has an input for the trigger. Is this a standard accessory on pro amps or do I need to look specifically for this feature?
Thanks Tracy

The receiver supplies a 12 volt signal that goes through a wire to an amp, that's powered up or down by that signal.
Most of the prosound amps we're using don't accept these triggering signals. If you want you can buy an outboard box that accepts the triggering signal, the prosound amp can plug into that box.

To avoid the thumping the BFD is on a separate outlet. Or if they powered up at the same time (from a power strip plugged into this), would there be a thump? Mike

(guess this is my first chance to contribute out here - hope it helps) I'm not sure how much they want for that Xantech box but I found these --> www.bitsltd.net/SmartStrip/buy.htm and got one to manage the power on my two QSC pro-amps. Only about $30 and it handles both my amps and their cleanboxes and works like a champ.

$30 is a good deal for adding a trigger. does than assume a receiver in the system or would a pre-pro cause it to activate?
another $100 option is the monster HTS 3500 at accessories4less.com. it adds a trigger plus filtering etc. also around that range are the pureav pf 31 and pf40. i found a pf40 for $125. i chose that one becuase it had a range of trigger voltages of 5-30V. i needed 5V for an acurus act3.

The smartstrip will respond to anything plugged into its "trigger" outlet. So any electrical appliance could activate it. It has a variable pot on it so you can dial in the exact point at which it turns on/off the triggered outlets.

If the BFD and the amp are powered on and off at the same time, will there be a thump? Does anyone currently have their system set up this way? Thanks, Nick

If there are relays that delay the amp going to full power you're okay. If there aren't......big THUMP...
The BFD draws about 7 watt when on.....that's of course the same as most night lights.....So I leave mine on all the time.

Okay, thanks Thomas. I didn't realize it had such a small draw.
