Hi all,I'm a noob here, and would like to know if I can just mount my drivers onto a baffle and mount between the ceiling of my lounge and the floor of my bedroom above? To place the drivers behind my main speakers using a manifold, would block a central heating radiator in the room above.I'd like to use 2 12"drivers side by side.Is this possible? Thank you.Mikee55

Hello again,If you had this situation how would you address the radiator problem?I plan on using two 12" drivers,of which I haven't chosen. Its taken long enough to convince the wife, and the condition is that I take my time and do it well.I haven't chosen amplifiers either. My first thoughts are optimal position and to be discrete as I can.To of gotten rid of the box would help to make it discrete.I don't think she has realized yet that this is going to visible in our bedroom.I will need to think about this one for a while.Dimensions of both rooms is 3.5m w 4m d 2.8m h.Please tell me your thoughts. Thank you.mikee55

From your minimal description I can't possibly visualize what you're talking about with regard to hiding the radiator. So post a picture or a drawing.

Let's see if I can't try and imagine what you have in mind.
You want to place your baffle in (or on) the ceiling with a hole in the bedroom floor above?
So the backs of speakers will be visible in the bedroom above? This would depend on how deep the drivers are and how deep your joists are. You would need to box round the area between your ceiling baffle and the floor above. Two cross pieces between the joists would do a either end of your baffle.
Then you could probably hide the driver magnets with a grill in the floor above. If the drivers are higher than the depth of your floor joists it wouldn't be by very much. So a simple wooden frame fixed to the bedroom floor could raise the floor area above the drivers. Then just add your grill on top for appearance sake and to stop things falling onto the backs of the drivers.
2 x 12" drivers are probably not really enough piston area for an IB. Even 2 x 15" are not likely to meet with Thomas' complete approval even for low volume listening in a small room.

Chris,
He doesn't want to cut a hole in the floor above. He wanted just the joist space alone function as the IB. That of course is way too small

Thomas
I thought that at first.
But Mike later mentions his wife not knowing about the drivers being visible in th bedroom.
