OK, after struggling mightily to shoehorn a four IB15 sub into an IB I ended up having to settle on two down-firing ceiling mounted manifolds. The problem is, with no mechanical cancellation, the effect on the room upstairs is becoming problematic. Is there really anything that can be done to fix this or no?

You might try using insulation or blankets, pillows etc around the area of the manifold on the backwave side. Not close to the manifold but around it to absorb the wave a bit... not sure if this is a possiblity for you or not.

No mechanical cancellation means you have vibration issues?. If that's the case nope not much you can do other than invest in heavy rugs and furniture.
You could pull out the drivers and shoot more screws at an angle between the top of the trusses and the floor above. Obviously be careful how deep those screws go.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. And BTW, I should have said baffle instead of manifold. If I had a manifold I'd probably have some mechanical cancellation.
