Well, based on osuhog's evaluation, I ordered eight. I can't see any available sources that come remotely close to this value!
Thanks for the report osuhog and thanks Mark for giving DIY a positive boost.

edit: with 11db gain added at 21hz w/Q=1 these run fairly flat with a 3db down at 19hz. Total wattage=100watts yielding 123db.

Naug: PM me before end-of-workday tomorrow. I sent personal email to everyone I've shipped to thus far.
Carpenter: You're welcome. What allot of people don't realize is the fact that they are getting product that *should* be selling for much more than what you see on Mach 5 Audio. The 10's and 12's would normally sell for double the price; the 18's, don't get me started.
That's the kind of quality we're talking about here guys!
No sales pitch, just the truth.
I'm gone on holidays - ttyl!
Best, Mark

carpenter, Wow, wow, wow! That's about all I've got to say about that. After spending a few days with two of these bad boys, I can't even imagine the LFE world you are getting ready to enter!

I'm glad you said that, osuhog. I was on the verge of ordering sixteen, but thought 123db might be enough.
Yes, I'm pulling your leg...
I remember a pair of sealed enclosure I fabricated about 25 years ago--each side had a pair of radio-shack 15s with foam surrounds. Each one was big as a refridgerater. What I remember most was the sweet, laid-back sound it had. I wonder if an I.B. will be similar? I hear tell of the detailed bass with an I.B. Hope so...

OSUhog, what's the volume of your home theater? I'm wondering if I should buy 4 of Marks 18's... tia naug My room is about 18' X 16' with a vaulted ceiling that angles from 8' to 12' and my room is completely open to the rather small kitchen/dining room area. My main seating is pretty much right in the middle of the room, about 12 feet from the opening of the manifold. Again, in my setup the bass from these two 18's is amazing, quality and quantity. That said, I am thinking very seriously of ordering two more and completing my ultimate, be all, end all, subwoofer. I don't even really know why, but I just have the urge.

Hey Mark, I just had a thought. Is there any chance that shipping would be less if you were able to ship two of these together as one package?
If there was a way to safely do this with lots of packing tape or whatever, you would end up with one package, 20" x 20" x 24" weighing in at 60 pounds.
Probably not much difference, but maybe worth checking out since everyone here at the cult would be buying in pairs for IB use.

You just have to tape two boxes together, just go around the edge if you stack one on top of the other. That's what I did with 4 I sent recently.
I believe the major cost is due to him being in Canada right?

Even with the added shipping cost, nothing in the US will touch his prices!
Everyone, get your ears and ego in gear and go for it. Let's live this life as if it were our last. ;D

Wow, I am extremely interested in how much 8 of the 18" subwoofers could produce? I really really really want to make an array of these bad boys.
I want a section of wall devoted to woofage.
Edit: wow, shipping prices are scary! ... It hurts to be broke...

set a goal; focus; make it happen...
Suggestion: purchase one driver every other month
It doesn't take much wattage with these drivers to max out Xmax, so amplifier power is a cinch

At the prices you're offering the MJ-18, it's worth charging up the card a bit to get a set -- in my case, a set of eight.
FWIW, I'm not a monetarily wealthy man either. It's all about mindset: your thoughts make you who you are. From a cosmic viewpoint, I'm very wealthy because I choose to be happy and believe that dreams come true. Everytime.
John
On another note, can anyone explain to me the difference in sound quality of an IB vs. a ported enclosure? I'm fabricating two, forty cubic foot enclosures with four MJ-18 drivers each that unload into the garage. The idea is to be able to experiment; I can block the garage passage way and port the enclosure. The difference in power handling is about eight to one favoring the ported configuration which explains why the ported enclosure is 9 db louder.
edit: the IB is 18db louder than the ported config. at 10hz
