Well, I just sold the last two 18" units I had....
...And it all started here. Big thanks to all of you for providing the much needed input, suggestions and recommendations on what is turning out to be the biggest seller out of everything I have.
This, to me, is what DIY audio is all about.
More are on the way, including a 4 Ohm version as I mentioned in a previous thread. Cost prices are going up as I suspected they would, but I've opted to eat the difference in favour of keeping things stable for as long as economically possible.
I've taken your suggestions and have a prototype for a 'next-gen' unit coming with the order. We'll see how it fairs...
Thanks again, Mark

Thanks again, Mark I'd Love to hear more about this... a little more XMAX and a lower Fs sure would make this thing killer... I'd probably consider replacing my current MJ-18's with a new version if those to things were changed. -Jim

Gee Jim, you just got them...
Actually, yes, a little bit of everything is in 'flux'. Will certainly post the measurements once I take them (or get them taken).
I'll be receiving an answer as to the next shipments whereabouts on Monday. Hopefully not too long tho...
Best, Mark

Awesome news! Kind of scared me in the beginning when I saw the topic; I thought you weren't going to sell any more 18" drivers.

I promised a few that I would keep them around for awhile...
I just got word that they will be ready to ship at the end of the month, but a Chinese holiday will push shipping to ~Oct 9. I should therefore see them by the end of October.

I think I'll have enough to fulfill your order oface BTW, the date of Oct 9 is the shipping date to me - I don't expect to see them until the end of the month. Best, Mark

Mark,
Which version of your 18" will you recieve at the end of the month? 4 ohm version or 8 ohm? New Fs or no? I know you said you need to test them to truly know but at least in theory are these the same or different? Thanks.

Hi Steve,
Both 8 and 4 Ohm versions are coming. At this point the change in Fs is only on the 4 Ohm version as per the OEM's info provided.
I will know more when they arrive.

Sorry if this is against Forum policy but I have 4 MJ 18" still packaged in FLA.
I recently decided to go with the ficaraudio Q18s instead because they have 3 times the displacement and Im just couldnt resist that much more displacement.
My MJ18s are available send me an email at dgray@coldstorage.com

Mark,
I'm seriously interested in 4 of your drivers, but I'll have to make up my mind between the 4ohm and 8ohm drivers. If you were building an IB system right now, which would you use?

To be fair, I don't think he's even seen the 4 ohm version yet . But I am also very curious.

Well, they're basically the same unit. The Fs on the 4 Ohm is slightly lower, but I cannot comment further until I get the batch in to test them.
So it really comes down to load impedance on your amp, how many you plan to go with and how they can be wired up. If you plan to go with 2 units and your amp is 4 Ohm stable, go with the 4 Ohm versions. For 4 units, go with the 8 Ohm.

Thanks, I'm thinking 8 ohm will do the trick for my application. Just a side question, and you really don't need to answer this if you want, but what are you gaining by selling these drivers so cheap?

A smaller profit means more sales which means more money!
(That's my guestimation. ;D)

Hmm... let's see.... notoriety, popularity, friends, being the center of the universe... ;D ;D ;D
Not in it for the cash, as the pricing reflects. Just like playing with stuff I guess.

Got more in the other day, along with the 4 Ohm version and a batch of 15" units.
The 18" prototype I was talking about earlier wasn't ready when the shipment left so it will have to wait for awhile.
Here are some preliminary specs on the prototype (it was designed for IB / very large enclosures):
Re - 7.2 Ohm Qts - 0.44 BL - 22.4 Fs - 17Hz Mms - 321g Vas - 549l SPL - 89db Xmax - 30mm
I'd throw up a small picture of it but I don't think I can do that here.
Best, Mark
